A Modern DIY Cinderella

We all know that in any area of our life there is always a plan B. This also works in the case of wedding dresses. If you do not find the perfect one for you, it can be adapted or repaired.

Unfortunately we are born equal, but actually, during our life we are not equal at all. There are girls who have the chance to wear Haute Couture wedding dresses on their unique wedding day, but, on the other hand there are girls who are crying because they do not have enough money to afford a new wedding dress. However, do you remember the story of Cinderella and their Godmother? Well, there is one Godmother for every girl, and if they cannot wear Haute Couture or they cannot purchase an expensive, new wedding dress, they can buy a second hand one and then they need the skill necessary for wedding dress repair.
Most of the times, when a girl is not rich, she is very skilful so she will not need a tailor in order to repair her wedding dress, and she can save that money. Here is what you need, not only for wedding dress repairs, but also for learning the technique of tailoring which can be very useful, because our body is unique and we must adapt any item of clothing to it.
First you need a room, or part of a room with a table which must be directly illuminated. Here you will keep the following pieces of equipment: the tape measure, the scissors which are essential in tailoring. They must not be very large and the handles rings must be big enough in order to help you feel comfortable using them. The tips must be very sharp because they are necessary to cut useless threads. You must take into consideration that a wedding dress may be full of such threads.
Furthermore, you need a 1 meter ruler. If you put on the wedding dress and you see that it is too large for you, it must be taken in. You have to stitch it manually, and then try it on. If it still does not match you, a ruler will help you draw correctly the line of the new measure.
To continue with, as a wedding dress requires much hand stitching, you obviously need a thimble to protect your middle finger. Moreover, you must choose carefully the needles and the thread you need and pins are also useful to join two pieces of material which must then be stitched together. Your sewing machine must have a high quality needle and it depends of course on the thickness of the material.
When the wedding dress repair is ready, whether you have had to take it in or to enlarge it, to cut or lengthen it, or only to consolidate its stitches, at the end of these operations it must be ironed. At this point you must be very careful and it is useless to say that you must use the ironing board and a special thin cloth. Now you can take a coat hanger and put your wedding dress on it carefully and with a sigh of relief you can now wait for the wedding day.
